ABOUT SIGNALS AND SYSTEMS FOR LIFE SCIENCE
Signals and Systems for Life Science is a thrust area of research at IIT Kharagpur. This draws research faculty from many Departments, Schools and Centres. While School of Medical Science & Technology is fully dedicated to this domain, there are research groups in Dept.s of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemistry etc. actively engaged in this field. Research faculty and students have won various awards for their contribution in this area. The activities have drawn interest from India and abroad.
The upcoming super-speciality hospital at IIT Kharagpur for which construction work has started, makes it a fit case for the start of a platform that would harness all its energy to bring greater focus to its effort. Through this initiative we aim to address important research problems that asks coming together of best practices of medical, engineering and science disciplines.
IMPRINT-India Healthcare team now has participation from 16 IITs and IISc. The activities are now divided in 15 domains. For proper dissemination of information a dedicated website is launched which puts together everything at one place.
Second Pan IIT, IISc IMPRINT-India workshop was held on 16th August, 2015 at IIT Delhi and has representation from 16 institutions. IIT Kharagpur team was represented by Prof.s Anupam Basu (Jt. A press conference was conducted jointly by Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) and Institute of Pulmocare & Research Kolkata on July 09, 2015. There was a visit by Robert Bosch Engineering India Ltd (RBEI), Bangalore team on July 07, 2015 here to explore joint activity in Healthcare area. Technology demonstrations were arranged to the visiting team in different departments. The concluding session of this day long visit discussed possibilities, where for now we work on (i)one or more projects together, (ii)some matured / semi-matured IIT Kharagpur technologies taken up by RBEI for industrialization, and (iii)student working as interns in RBEI to get industry perspective. A greater level of engagement is expected after these early initiatives.
About 150 faculty members and research students working in healthcare area attended Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy (SRIC), IIT Kharagpur organized training programme on Ethics in Clinical Research – Schedule “Y” & Good Clinical Practice on 11th June, 2015 from 11.00 – 01.45 PM. Thirteen of the concept notes submitted from IITKGP are approved by DRDO for further considerations. Full proposals are to be prepared by July 03, 2015 in LSRB format.
Both the EoIs submitted by us have got good reviews, and full proposals are invited for both from respective teams by 21st June, 2015.

Two Expression of Interests (EOI) are submitted for the ITRA Human Simulator RFP within April 19, 2015 deadline. Prof. Sanjoy Bandyopadhyaya leads one team and Prof. Jayanta Mukhopadhyaya the other. The EOI preparation brought some leading institutes / experts of life science domain closer to us, to initiate collaborative work.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) organized a one day exhibition on 11th March, 2015 at Rashtrapati Bhavan with the theme “Innovation in Medical Science & Technology” as a part of weeklong “Festival of innovation” that was inaugurated by Honourable President of India.
